
The governor of Guanajuato, Libia Dennise García Muñoz Ledo, emphasized the importance of the state continuing to attract investments and generating jobs for the population. She highlighted Guanajuato's role as a world-renowned tourist destination, achieving an economic impact of more than 51 billion pesos in 2024 and positioning the state as the sixth in the nation for employment in the restaurant and accommodation service sector.
Regarding tourism, Guanajuato has positioned itself as a powerhouse, with the Guanajuato International Airport being key in attracting visitors with 21 routes operated by five airlines. The governor highlighted the agri-food sector's role as an economic engine, mentioning a historic agreement signed with the President of Mexico for over 6.4 billion pesos aimed at technifying irrigation in the fields and benefiting more than 25,000 producers.
Guanajuato ranks second nationally in manufacturing production, with companies like Toyota, Walmart, Palacio de Hierro, and Home Depot significantly contributing to the state economy. In terms of employment, Guanajuato ended the year with 1.1 million workers insured in the IMSS, positioning itself as the fifth state in this aspect nationwide.
The governor stressed that during the last quarter of the previous year, investments exceeding 2 billion dollars were attracted, generating more than 4,000 committed jobs, which represents a significant advancement in the well-being of Guanajuato families. Additionally, more than 7,000 businesses in Guanajuato have obtained Guanajuato Brand certification, a symbol of quality and local pride that boosts the state economy.
In her First Government Report, García Muñoz Ledo emphasized that Guanajuato is consolidating as the fifth most important economy in Mexico, with a GDP exceeding 79.3 billion dollars. The state has shown a 13 percent growth in exports during the first three quarters of 2024, surpassing states like Jalisco and San Luis Potosí in this aspect.
The automotive sector is prominent in Guanajuato, being the second-largest national exporter with a growth of 16.8 percent. Additionally, the agri-food sector has achieved international sales exceeding 1.871 billion dollars, benefiting a considerable number of people in terms of employment. The governor mentioned that foreign investments have increased by 4.4 billion dollars from January to September 2024, generating jobs in several key industrial sectors in the region.
